Not concerned really. Curious.

We were on a planet that was hit with a superlaser capable of destroying entire planets. I only wanted to know if there was some radioactive residue remaining, but it has been months since then if there were any traces, they might have already faded.

Unfortunately, I think it's been far too long. We have no way of knowing how long the transition is from being brought her to being "implanted"—so to speak—to now.

Radioactivity is something that I have a lot of experience with, but I don't think we can get any conclusive evidence when it comes to you. Maybe if you asked me sooner, but even then, the nebulous "they" make sure to heal us up. If you had traces of radiation, they'd have the means to treat you for radiation sickness. They may even check for it.

[This is the first time Clarke has been able to speak knowledgeably about a subject, even with the unknown factor of her captors. It's honestly a bit of a relief, but it's not like she can say that. No one wants to have this much knowledge about blood and radiation.]

I'm sorry. Was anyone else there with you? Is there any chance they might turn up here?

I thought as much. [ about the time, at least, but it was worth a chance regardless. ]

There were very many on the planet, but most of them were in the same state I was and judging by the length of my hair, I'd been convalescing for a lot longer than the majority of the newcomers anyway.

How exactly does someone come by radioactive experience?

[ again, curiosity. it is the nature of jyn erso. ]

My version of Earth was irradiated a hundred years ago, and my specific group of people evolved to the point that we could deal with it.

["Evolved."]

Some people couldn't do that. You start to see the signs thanks to tests about where the differences lied.

[Never mind the nonsense fake science behind it. It was real to Clarke!]

That is an incredibly fast evolution, but it's not unheard of. There are species where I am from that had adapted to breathe toxic atmosphere without breathing apparatus.

There was some engineering behind it. Preparing people for living up there, though none of us could have guessed that we needed it.

How long did it take those species to evolve?

For what it's worth, I saw some surprisingly resilient animals that made it through the irradiation. Some didn't look the same, but that could be said about the people. There are effects of it, and I guess not all of it the same properties, what with evolution and ... I think what comes with mutation? As is normal with radiation.

But I only know a little about that. I'm learning.

Honestly I don't know. My education was sort of self-led and genetic mutations for evolution to environmental factors wasn't my niche.

My niche was more leadership and less science, but sometimes you come across some things and have to think about it.

So, same? I guess.

And here we are, both working in science labs.

Speaking of, has anyone taken the blood of any recently arrived? Maybe we could isolate the compulsion drug and reverse engineer it to find what it is made from.

By we I mean someone qualified and not me.

It's been done by some Morningstar techs early on, I think? Or some version of it. I'm not sure they were any better at finding the exact compounds. We got some ideas, but it seemed to be completely unique.

Unique, but also? A sedative. Or the sedative was a part of the dose.

So either the compulsion drugs metabolize slower or we're dosed before we wake up from the sedative.

Really wish I could just grab that nurse.

We're dosed on the way here. I think it was clearer for us because we had the accident. I wasn't thinking clearly, and I regret a lot about that very, very first night.

I tried to punch someone in the face but Daisy wouldn't let me.

That's probably for the best. Whoever brings us here is well armed and very good at killing.

I'll find someone to punch eventually.

Fighting rings are busy with championships and I've got an itch the punching bag can't scratch.

I was going to list off some names among our number who can get annoying.

But knowing my luck, I'd somehow get a reputation for sending you out to fight my enemies.

I imagine there is some kind of godly rule behind it. Maybe their power doesn't extend here? Hard to say.

I don't believe in gods. I'm not going to start here.

I just think it's more complicated than what we believe.
